I have internet connection but my internet explorer does not connect, what’s wrong?

I have sony vaio vgn fs830/w with Windows XP. everything on the computer that needs internet works like Yahoo Messenger, MSN messenger. Even Bearshare works, but I cannot use Internet Explorer. I don’t know what to do please help!

First reset internet explorer. This will default all the settings incase something went wrong
Go to start>control panel>internet options > advanced > click the ‘reset’
If this does not work make sure you do not have a firewall configured to block either the application ‘iexplore.exe’ or port 80. You can test this by temporarily disabling your firewall software. To disable windows firewall go start>run> and type “netsh firewall set opmode disable” without the quotes.
